After trailing by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter Middle Tennessee’s Lady Raiders pulled within two as time ran out to fall 61-59 to the visiting UAB Blazers.

“We didn’t play one of our better defensive games,” MT Head Coach Rick Insell said. “When you do that, you don’t deserve to win … and that’s not us. That’s not the way we play.”

Middle Tennessee was led in the scoring column by Hayes with 18 points on seven of 14 shooting. Savage had 10 points and nine rebounds, moving her into 11th on the program’s single-season rebounding list with 288. She also stuffed the stat sheet with four assists and five steals.

Boothe, who’s played in three games this season while recovering from knee surgery, had nine points and six rebounds in just 11 minutes.

Only four games remain for the Lady Raiders before the C-USA Championships. They’ll travel to UTEP on Saturday before quickly returning for home games against WKU and North Texas, then the regular-season finale will be March 7 at Charlotte.

“We just have to get here in the morning, get on the plane and go down to El Paso and play,” Insell said. “We’ll see what we do Saturday.”
